Activities

Students have opportunities to develop their technical, creative, social, political, and career interests with like-minded peers. They will meet new friends and share interests and talents.

At Saint Raphael School, students have many choices.

Art Club: Students in grades 5 and 6 may join this club. The group meets once a month on Thursdays in the Art Room. Activities include creating individual and group art projects.

Chess Club: Students in grades 5-8 may join the chess club.

Choir: Students in grades 4-8 may join the school choir.  Practices will be scheduled during recess periods. The choir will sing at the weekly Friday Mass as well as other school and parish events.

Craft Club: Students in grade 4-8 may join this club. The Craft club offers students the opportunity to learn various craft skills [crochet, woodworking, mosaics, etc..] while sharing completed projects with the school/parish community and also reaching out to nursing homes and hospitals.

Go Green Club: Students in Grades 6-8 may join this club.  Its mission is to design programs that will help members of the Saint Raphael School Community become better stewards of the earth, one of the Lord's gifts.  The club meets after school and during recess periods..

Legion of Mary Junior Presidium: Students in grades 3-8 are invited to meet each Wednesday afternoon with one of the Parish priests and a parent moderator of this prayer group.

Lego Club: Students in grades 1-4 may join. Students will be encouraged to use their creative, problem-solving and team building skills while having fun playing with Legos. They will explore such topics as machines and mechanisms where tasks will be designed for exploration and experimentation.

Literary Magazine: Students in grades 6-8 may join the staff of the literary magazine, MUSE.  Published in the spring of each school year, students from grades 4-8 may submit poetry, short stories and artwork for publication.

Middle School Evening Activities: With parents, faculty and staff assistance, activities such as dances, volleyball tournaments and movie nights are scheduled on Friday evenings throughout the school year.  More information will be available as individual events approach.

Mock Trial: All students in grade 7 participate in the Mock Trial presentation.  Students prepare for and present a fictional court case.  The experience allows students to portray lawyers and witnesses during a Spring Assembly Program.   An emphasis is placed on forming questions and preparing answers for both the prosecution/plaintiff and defense sides.  Students have the opportunity to work with an attorney advisor who assists them with constructing their arguments.

National Junior Art Honor Society: Students in grades 7 and 8 are eligible to become members of this club. Invitations are sent to students in grades 7 and 8 in October of each school year. The group meets once a month on Thursdays in the Art Room. Activities include special art projects, assisting with the Annual Art Show, Gallery Displays, and School Service Projects.

Newspaper: Students in grades 6-8 may join the staff of the Saint Raphael GAZETTE.  Published each trimester, the newspaper features interviews, articles on upcoming school events, puzzles and photos of school activities.

Safety Patrol: Students in grades 6-8 may join the Saint Raphael Safety Patrol. These students are responsible for assisting teachers at recess and lunchtime with supervision of younger students. They also assist the teachers in Kindergarten to grade 3 during school dismissal.

Student Council: In early September, nominations are announced and elections are held.  Students are given the chance to campaign and make speeches to their peers.  Student Council Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer) are 7th and 8th grade students.  Grades 3 through 7 elect representatives to serve on the council.  A grade 8 student will be appointed by the moderators to serve as the representative for the students in Preschool to grade 2.  Activities include sponsoring car washes, service projects, food collection drive, assemblies and pep rallies.

Tech Team: Students in grades 5-8 may this club. The students assist the Director of Technology in preparing for school functions, performing basic maintenance on tech equipment and providing staff assistance as requested.  The club meets after school as well as during recess periods.

Yearbook: Students in grades 6-8 may join the yearbook staff in designing and composing the school’s annual yearbook.
